Growing up in the countryside of the New York Fingerlakes, I spent
most of my time outdoors looking for wildflowers, birds nests, and
animal tracks, or simply sitting in the fields, content to watch the sky.
I was encouraged early in life to notice and study the aesthetic value
in the surroundings—to see shifting patterns and colors, and appreciate the juxtaposition of shapes.

I see my work as an expression of gratitude for the beauty I admire
in everyday life. I’m inspired by the sky, the ocean, the glow of city streetlights, my garden, sunlight on a friend’s red hair, a bowl of colorful soup, vegetables at the farmer’s market. I like to exaggerate reality
with bolder shapes and brighter colors in my paintings.

With painting, I’m eager to dig in with cavalier confidence, quickly putting down my initial impressions, and as the work progresses, I become more exacting and self-critical, working and reworking sections. As evidenced by the thick and textured paint surface that characterizes much of my work, it’s not unusual for me to paint two or three paintings on one canvas, layering one over another until the right image emerges.
I paint for the love of it, and hope that my paintings entertain, soothe, inspire, and remind you of the things that you love in life. I also hope
that my art prompts you to take a closer look at your own world with appreciation for the endless beauty around you.
